Frequently Asked Questions
What happened to Gfycat?
Gfycat shut down on September 1, 2023. All hosted content was permanently deleted. The site was owned by Snap Inc. at the time of closure.
Does storage.to support GIFs?
You can upload and share GIF files, but storage.to doesn't convert videos to GIFs or provide an embedded player like Gfycat did. It's a file sharing service, you share the original file via a download link.
Can I use storage.to for free?
Yes. Files up to 25GB, password protection and Cloudflare CDN delivery are all free. Premium, from $5/month, is optional and adds permanent storage and files up to 100GB each.
Will my files stay up forever?
No. Files expire after 1-7 days (3 days by default). This is by design, it keeps the service fast and free, and your content doesn't linger online indefinitely. Premium accounts keep files permanently with no expiry.
Is there a way to embed clips?
storage.to provides direct download links, not embedded players. For inline video embeds, you'd want a platform like Imgur or Reddit's native video. storage.to is best for sharing original quality files.
Share Clips Without the Platform Risk
Platforms shut down. Links break. Upload to storage.to, share the link, and let it expire on your terms.
